70 years ago today, the Grumman F8F Bearcat took flight for the first time in service of the US.  The last of Grumman’s piston-engine fighters, the Bearcat never saw combat with the US but served as an airframe used by the US Navy’s Blue Angels.

The heavily modified Bearcat - Rare Bear - dominated air races for years and set several records.
